Blacks

Our Merstham Blacks team plays in the Surrey Flexi League division 1. They are an ambitious team, who take on every obstacle and are fans of smashing the ball into the back of the net.  This team is coached by Marvellous Mick. Three words to describe the Blacks team: skilled, astounding, undaunted.

26.02.24 - Kingswood

Merstham Blacks took on Kingswood this afternoon in the grey weather. Luckily, the rain held off just until the match finished!

Merstham started brightly and got an early goal and lead, with Mel slotting a brilliant shot past Kingswood’s keeper. Throughout the rest of the first and second half, Merstham’s attack was relentless, with many great shots being blocked by Kingswood’s solid defence or saved by their keeper. The play in the midfield was outstanding, with some brilliant short and long passes and Merstham had the majority of the possession. Kingswood however made two strong counter attacks and, against the run of play, scored two goals, making the final score 2-1 to Kingswood.

As well as Mel’s great goal, at the other end, Leona and Lou made some great saves. Ali (twinkle toes) danced her way around many Kingswood players, Kelly provided her usual calm and dominant defending and H, Ria, Sara and Lisa provided that midfield magic POM however was Chrissie for reading the game like a magician, putting in some brilliant interceptions and for creating some great attacking play.

Shout out to Ambers who came to watch after their extra training session, who combined with friends and family, provided loud and proud support on the sidelines.

As usual, thanks to Mick for his passion and guiding light to the team.

18.02.24 - Godalming Storm

Merstham Blacks travelled to Guildford to take on Godalming Storm this afternoon, in their first league match of the South Division 1.
The game was fast paced on the 3G pitch and Merstham put together some great passes in the first half, showing their strength as a whole team. The possession dominance paid off and Sara got the first goal before half time.
Into the second half, everyone in the team played spectacularly and the created so many chances. Mel got the second goal and Ali followed suit with the team’s third and fourth goal (with a great assist from Sara)!
The match finished 0-4 to Merstham. Very well played to Godalming Storm, who gave us a great game.
Shout out to Leona for keeping a clean sheet in goal, to Mick for excellent coaching and advice as always, and to Lou, Vicky, Tarn and Tash on the side lines who were the 8th player today, cheering the team on.
POM was Ali for showing her usual excellence

26.11.23 - Caterham Pumas

Merstham Blacks were in Coulsdon playing Caterham Pumas. We are so proud of the Blacks, who dominated with their sportsmanship and talent. Caterham managed to get a couple of lucky goals and the game finished 2-1- well played to both teams, particularly in the freezing wind and rain. POM was Lisa T but credit to the whole team for exceptional hard work so far this year- the 22-23 winners are showing their character and determination.

13.11.2023 - Kingswood Blue

The Blacks played Kingswood Blue in November. The Blacks attacked the Kingswood goal from the beginning and that continued throughout. The Kingswood goalkeeper was incredible and made save after save. The shots were relentless, the team work was amazing and the game was fast and so well played by both teams. There were some stunning passes and positional play and the shots still kept coming. The game ended 0-0 much to Kingswood's relief.
